Sustainability in practice: Vicaima promotes internal initiative in partnership with FSC® Portugal
2025-05-06
Committed to promoting responsible environmental practices, Vicaima held an internal awareness-raising event on 23 April focused on FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) certification and the importance of sustainable forest management. The initiative, organised in collaboration with FSC® Portugal, involved training, awareness and capacity-building for employees from various areas of the Group, encouraging awareness of material traceability throughout the value chain and the positive impact of conscious choices.
Divided into two sessions, the event focused on the core principles of FSC®, forest certification as a strategic tool for environmental protection, and the criteria needed to ensure product compliance with international requirements. Topics covered included the importance of the chain of custody, the types of FSC® labels (100%, Mixed, and Recycled), and best practices in the procurement of certified products.
The session also included an explanation of project certification, particularly relevant in the construction and hospitality sectors, as well as an analysis of the new European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which sets additional requirements regarding the legal and sustainable origin of wood-based products. Another subject addressed was the importance of the scientific identification of forest species, with special attention given to distinguishing protected species and the need for accuracy in the designation of raw materials.
By promoting such initiatives essential to its activity, Vicaima remains active and continuously committed to embedding sustainability in its culture as an expression of collective responsibility, valuing employees’ technical knowledge and encouraging practices aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.
